New York Times ask Modi to break his silence

As US President Barack Obama's comments that religious intolerance in India would have shocked Mahatma Gandhi raised an upheaval in India, the New York Times asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his "dangerous silence."

The White House stated that Mahatma Gandhi's legacy is an inspiration for the US also. "What will it take for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speak out about the mounting violence against India's religious minorities?" asked the New York Times on Saturday in an editorial titled "Modi's Dangerous Silence", NYT quoted.



"Attacks at Christian places of worship have prompted no response from the man elected to represent and to protect all of India's citizens," said the influential daily. "Nor has he addressed the mass conversion to Hinduism of Christians and Muslims who have been coerced or promised money," it added.

Political activities in Bihar took a hectic run on Sunday, as former Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal United leader Nitish Kumar met Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi with 130 legislators from his party and allies New New political equations in Bihar

Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Congress to stake his claim that he has a majority in the assembly to form the government in the state after JDU barred Jitan Ram Manjhi as its leader and asked him to resign as the state’s chief minister. JD (U) president Sharad Yadav and RJD chief Lalu Prasad also accompanied Nitish Kumar to Raj Bhawan.





The Bihar Governor was informed by JDU to invite Nitish Kumar to be the chief minister in the next two days. In the meanwhile, Mr Manjhi had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday. The party has also booked 140 air tickets seats to Delhi tomorrow, where it has sought an appointment with President Pranab Mukherjee to demonstrate support for Mr Kumar.

"The Bihar crisis was scripted in Delhi. Operation Jitan Ram Manjhi has been engineered by (BJP chief) Amit Shah and it has PM Modi's blessings. Yesterday, the tone that Manjhi had used after meeting the PM cannot be that of a minority chief minister," said JDU leader KC Tyagi.
